Stinky Is Good In A Garden Of Lies

Something in her eyes made him wonder if he’d made the right decision. She seemed a little dazed and confused; not like her normal put-together self.
“Are you okay?”
She held the door open for him but remained silent. It was unlike her to be so solemn.
“Are you okay?” This time he stood in front of her and grabbed her hands.
“It’s over.” Tears fell. “Larry said it’s over.”
Patience walked over to the fireplace and touched the mantle. She couldn’t stop crying.
Xavier stood behind Patience. He didn’t know how to comfort her. The only thing he thought he should do was hold her. He put his arms around her and stroked the back of her hair. “I’m so sorry.”
Dayna gripped the bag. She wasn’t sure if she should rip open the screen door and beat both of them with the cartons of ice cream, or just go home. They looked so comfortable, so familiar with each other. She couldn’t compete with Patience. She didn’t know what to do. Xavier had been her life; her future. And just like that, it was gone. Patience had won again.
