THE POLICE & THE POLITICIAN
The detectives watched Governor Dorian Travers look at his watch for a fourth time. He was getting antsy and downright ticked off. Chuck knew what he was thinking, and he was prepared for it.
“Any wager on how fast he’ll let us know he can have our badges?” Chuck walked to the door. “I’ll give him five minutes.”
“A piece of pie says it’s as soon as he walks through the door.”
“Governor Travers thanks for taking time out of your very busy schedule to speak with us.” Chuck didn’t bother to hide the disdain he felt for Dorian Travers.
Chuck motioned for him to take a seat across from him. “We’ll try to be as brief as possible, but you understand we’re investigating a murder.”
Dorian glared at the detectives. He wasn’t used to being made to wait, and he didn’t like it. He held up his finger and focused his attention on Chuck. “One call, that’s all it’ll take. Just one call and your badges will be gone. I’m doing you a favor and you waste my time? Now that I see how you run things around here, it’s no wonder you didn’t amount to much.”
“I really wouldn’t go there if I were you Governor, considering your track record outside of politics.”
Governor Travers shifted his weight in his seat. Chuck had struck a nerve.
“Governor,” Danica stood in front of Chuck to try to serve as a distraction. “This won’t take much longer. We know that you are close friends with the Somers family and worked closely with Tonya.”
He nodded his head. “Yes. Tonya was like my little sister. You know, I hated her one minute then loved her the next. We were always at each other’s throats during the day, but we could always walk out that door, enjoy a fabulous dinner and leave it behind us until the next day. Please tell me you’ve got a few leads.”
“We’re working very hard sir.” Danica softened her voice. “But we need your help. Can you tell us about the last conversation you had with Tonya?”
